Personal skills and qualities: excellent communication skills, being open and approachable, ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, ability to sift through information and extract what is relevant and, respect for views, values and cultures that are different to their own.

Generalist Adviser

Purpose of the role: to help provide an effective and efficient advice service to members of the public and to help influence government and other organisations by informing them of the effect of their actions on the lives of clients.

Personal skills and qualities: excellent communication skills, being open and approachable, ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, ability to sift through information and extract what is relevant and respect for views, values and cultures that are different to their own.

Specialist Adviser

Purpose of the role: To help provide an effective and efficient specialist advice service to members of the public, usually by referral and appointment and to help influence government and other organisations by informing them of the effect of their actions on the lives of clients.

Personal skills and qualities: respect for views, values and cultures that are different to their own, ability to use IT in the provision of advice and the preparation of reports and submissions, ordered approach to casework and an ability and willingness to follow and develop agreed procedures and, ability to prioritise own work, meet deadlines and manage caseload

Financial Capability One-to-One Trainer

Purpose of the role: the volunteer financial capability one-to-one trainer role is to develop and deliver financial education to individuals.

Personal skills and qualities: understanding the basics of coaching and motivating individuals, understanding the basics of money management and of the skills and confidence required to manage money effectively and, understanding the difference between financial capability training and debt advice.


 Advisers don't need to know it all! We provide all trainee advisers with a comprehensive accredited training programme that will give you the skills you need to deliver a high quality service to clients. Our up to the minute electronic information system contains most of the information you need when advising clients.

You will not be left alone after being trained. There will always be a more experienced adviser available, who can give you support, advice and guidance. All advisers are insured in case mistakes are made.

Once you have qualified as a Generalist Adviser, you will have the opportunity to develop further skills and increase the depth and breadth of your knowledge.
